While there are a lot of similarities between both Rage and DOOM–same developers, publishers, similar shooting style, etc.–it seems that the upcoming Rage 2 will contain a more direct callback to DOOM.
In a new video courtesy of IGN, it was revealed that the BFG 9000, the iconic demon-killing weapon that you can utilize in DOOM, will also be present in Rage 2. We only see the BFG itself utilized in the final moments of said gameplay video, but it looks like it’ll be dealing out just as much damage to those in the world of Rage as it does demons on Mars/Hell in DOOM.
If you’re unfamiliar with the BFG, it is a weapon that has been in the DOOM series from the beginning. BFG is an acronym that stands for Big Freaking (except it’s not ‘”Freaking”) Gun and is one of the most iconic items in the history of gaming. The weapon has also previously appeared in the Quake series before now making its arrival here in the world of Rage. If you want to get a look at how the BFG is used in 2016’s DOOM, check out this video. Also, you should just totally play DOOM if you haven’t already.
Hopefully, the BFG will be just as fun to blast enemies with in Rage 2 as it is to use in other games. If you want to get a short look at the BFG from Rage 2, check out the video at the bottom of the page.
