Following yesterday’s announcement that DOOM Eternal would be coming to both PS5 and Xbox Series X in the future, Bethesda today gave us our first taste of what to expect from the game’s forthcoming DLC.
Unveiled during today’s Quakecon at Home opening presentation, DOOM Eternal’s add-on story content is called The Ancient Gods. Bethesda and id Software gave us a brief taste of this expansion by showing off some gameplay footage before unveiling the key art. The Ancient Gods is going to be released in two parts and obviously, what we were shown was a look at part one.
While we now know what the DLC will be entitled, Bethesda has instead opted to show off its first extensive look at the new DOOM Eternal content during Geoff Keighley’s Gamescom Opening Night Live broadcast. Keighley himself shared some of the details of the production, which you can see in the tweet below. Gamescom Opening Night Live itself is set to transpire at the end of the month on August 27.

Again, while there’s not a lot that we currently know about The Ancient Gods, the idea of more DOOM Eternal sounds fantastic to me. In my own opinion, id’s latest shooter remains one of the best games of 2020 and absolutely needs to be checked out, if you’re at all intrigued. Hopefully, The Ancient Gods itself will arrive relatively soon.
DOOM Eternal, currently, is available on Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Stadia. A version for Switch is also said to be coming, but we haven’t had a status update on this iteration in quite some time.
