It’s very common within the gaming industry for larger developers to have multiple projects in development at the same time. FromSoftware, a developer best known for its work on the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, and the upcoming Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, is no different. Apparently, the popular Japanese developer has two unannounced projects in development.
In a June 2016 interview, President Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that FromSoftware had 3.5 product lines. He clarified what that meant in a recent interview with 4Gamer, confirming that FromSoftware is, in fact, working on two unannounced projects. Hidetaka Miyazaki said that the recently released Déraciné made up .5 of that number while Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice accounted for another one of the lines. As for the other 2 product lines remaining, they have been focusing on the development of two currently unannounced titles.
Obviously, Hidetaka Miyazaki wouldn’t reveal more to 4Gamer outside of the fact that FromSoftware is working on two other projects. That being said, Miyazaki-san said that these projects would be “typical FromSoftware games” and that we should be hearing more about them “soon”. You can check out the part of the interview where this is all revealed below, courtesy of a translation from DualShockers Staff Writer Iyane Agossah:
“4Gamer: Please tell us more about other games you’re developing besides Sekiro. In a previous interview, you once said that as of June 2016, you had from 2.5 to 3.5 development pipelines going simultaneously.
Miyazaki: I did talk about it once. We did have 3.5 lines going back then. 0.5 of that turned out to be Déraciné, and 1 of it is Sekiro. So there are still 2 lines left. These 2 are two unannounced games. These aren’t Dark Souls Remastered and Metal World Chaos XD, as we asked other companies to take care of them.
4Gamer: So you’re currently developing two unannounced games?
Miyazaki: Yes. I can’t tell you any details on them at the moment, but both titles are typical From Software games. I think we’ll be able to say more about both games soon.
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely one of these projects is Bloodborne 2. Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed during the same interview with 4Gamer that the Bloodborne easter eggs in Déraciné were just that and not teasing a new game. As he mentioned above, Dark Souls Remastered and Metal Wolf Chaos XD, two FromSoftware related projects announced since that initial 2016 interview, weren’t included in those 3.5 product lines as they came from outside companies.
The heavily rumored Demon’s Souls remaster would likely also fall under that umbrella, so it’s fairly unlikely that it would be considered one of the two projects even if it does exist. For now, all we can do is speculate what these two games are.
Of course, DualShockers will be sure to let you know when FromSoftware decides to reveal these two projects. In the meantime, you can currently play FromSoftware’s most recent game, Déraciné, on PlayStation VR. Meanwhile, their highly anticipated Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice launches for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on March 22, 2019 and is available for pre-order on Amazon.
