Nintendo surprise published a new Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase on August 26, most notably revealing Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend on Nintendo Switch. The game will be launching on December 15 worldwide. Predownload on the Nintendo Switch Eshop will open later today.
Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend is a compilation of three games:
We’ve got The Final Fantasy Legend, which was titled Makai Toushi SaGa in Japan and first released 1989. Next we have Final Fantasy Legend II, first released in 1990 as SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu. Lastly, there’s Final Fantasy Legend III, first released in 1991, under the title SaGa 3: Jikuu no Hasha.
All three games were launched on Game Boy. All three games also actually did release in USA back then. The Final Fantasy Legend games were the very first games of the SaGa Series. If you’re into the Mana Series, it’s similar with how both series initially started as siblings of Final Fantasy at Square. Before becoming their own separate series.

All three games are typical JRPGs with a turn-based battle system, towns, dungeons, and monsters, all in a fantasy-inspired setting. It’s important to note a turbo mode is included in the collection. Something I really wish was also added to the Remasters of Romancing SaGa 2 and 3 to make these masterpieces easier to go through.
The first two games were handled by SaGa Series main creator Akitoshi Kawazu, and feature music by Nobuo Uematsu. The second game also has Kenji Ito as its composer, and he later became the main composer of the series. The third game was handled by Chihiro Fujioka, who also did some of the BGMs alongside Ryuji Sasai.
This collection is part of the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the SaGa Series, like the western release of Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe. SaGa Producer Masanori Ichikawa recently spoke with DualShockers and had hinted more projects would be coming to raise awareness of the SaGa Series in the west.
