Interactive storytelling has been perfected throughout the years bringing action and emotional impact to gaming through titles such as Asura’s Wrath and Telltale Game’s The Walking Dead. However, this genre owes a lot to the few titles that formed its roots decades ago. Luckily, we can now relive those humble beginnings with Double Switch: 25th Anniversary Edition.
Double Switch was an FMV title from the early 1990s which placed the player at the controls of a high tech security system within a mansion known as the Edward Arms. As a diverse cast of increasingly eccentric characters shows up, it became evident that one of them was a killer. Using an array of different camera angles and triggering booby traps, it was up to the player to uncover and stop the murderer.
The classic FMV title features live footage similar to that seen in now infamous Night Trap. Among the cast are some high caliber names including Debbie Harry who’s well known as the lead singer of Blondie, and the late R. Lee Ermey who’s fondly remembered as the Full Metal Jacket’s Sergeant Hartman. Corey Haim and Brooke McCarter of The Lost Boys’ fame also make on-screen appearances.
Along with reliving the original adventure, Double Switch: 25th Anniversary Edition also offers a number of extras including behind-the-scenes footage, deleted scenes, and alternate takes.
Double Switch: 25th Anniversary Edition is available now on PlayStation 4 and Steam.
