Sid Meier’s Civilization VI will be receiving the Rise and Fall expansion in February, courtesy of Firaxis and 2K Games. Rise and Fall is set to add a big new feature called Great Ages, smaller features such as governors, and of course, brand to leaders and civilizations for players to mess around with. Today, India was revealed to be receiving yet another leader, in addition to Gandhi: Chandragupta Maurya. Like most leaders, he received his own First Look video to show what is unique about him.
For those of you who don’t know, Chandragupta Maurya was born sometime around 3rd Century BCE and wound up becoming a master strategist, overthrowing the corrupt Nanda dynasty, and creating the Mauryan dynasty. He ended up expanding his empire all the way to Afghanistan but still cared for his people, building roads, irrigation systems, and trade routes for them. Surprisingly, after adopting Jainism as his religion, he ended up abdicating his throne to go on a spiritual journey.
Depending on which of Indian leader players chose, they can take India in different directions, with Chandragupta Maurya allowing players to be a bit more aggressive in their playstyle. In addition to being able to build the same unique units and buildings, Chandragupta Maurya’s special leader ability is called Arthashastra. This allows players to declare a war of territorial expansion, which gives his units additional combat and movement strength during the first turns of a war.
