Nathan Vella, the co-founder and former CEO of Capybara Games, recently revealed that he joined indie studio Annapurna Interactive as an executive board member about six months ago. He made the announcement on his official Twitter, while showing off an image of his new digs. Which, admittedly, looks pretty gorgeous:

According to Vella: “Annapurna Interactive quickly proved they were one of the top publishers, and I doubt I could find another with a better combination of skill and love for games. I’m really excited to leverage my experience to help these awesome creators make the best games they can.”

Indie studio Annapurna has developed titles in the past such as Outer Wilds, Sayonara Wild Hearts, Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition, Florence and What Remains of Edith Finch. Their most recent game, If Found, will be releasing on May 19th for iOS and PC.

Back in September of last year Vella announced over Twitter that after over 14 years of service, Below and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery studio he would be stepping down as Capybara Games CEO. In some addition tweets, Vella stated that “Capy’s in an amazing spot these days — I’m certain their best work is yet to come.” Which, coming from the founder himself is great news for the company.

The latest title Capybara released was Below in December of 2018. While initially unveiled back at Microsoft’s press conference at E3 2015 and before then at E3 2013 as simply a dark and roguelike adventure title. It was originally slated for a 2016 release but then was delayed indefinitely until finally revealed for its final release date two years later.

In total, Capybara Games’ adventure title Below had been in development for half a decade before finally releasing for PC and Xbox One. Even more miraculous was the fact that it was well worth such a long development cycle, according to our preview of the title at PAX East 2018.

Before then Capybara released the Switch version of Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP on November 30th of last year. Capy also made headlines earlier this year when they revealed that the Twitter integration in Sword & Sworcery has also been removed for the Switch iteration due to the way in which the platform has fallen apart over the years.

Sword & Sworcery’s creative director said a few months ago that the company now wants “nothing to do” with the social media platform which led to them deleting its functionality for this version of the game.
