During today’s Apple Keynote live from the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California, Apple unveiled a new subscription-based model for gaming across iOS, Mac, and Apple TV.
Apple Arcade, the name of this new subscription platform, will give subs access to a catalog of over 100 games that will then be playable on iOS devices like iPhone and iPad, Mac, or on your television via Apple TV. All games will be available for play offline and you’ll also be able to switch between devices when playing a title. So if you go to work and decide to play on your phone throughout the day, you can then pick up your progress where you left off on your TV when you get home.
As for the games that will be bundled with Apple Arcade, Apple says it will offer some exclusives games from creators like Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy), Ken Wong, and Will Wright (The Sims). Apple also released a preview trailer showing off some of the titles that will be available through Apple Arcade which included Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm, The Pathless, Sonic Racing, Beyond a Steel Sky, and many others. You can see some of the games in question planned to come to the service in the two trailers attached at the bottom of the page.
As of now, initial subscription prices for Apple Arcade haven’t been announced, but Apple says it will have more details to share in the future. Apple Arcade is currently expected to go live later this fall.
