Nintendo dropped some major news bombs in their E3 Direct this year. We got Luigi’s Mansion 3 gameplay, dates for countless games, wild new Smash characters, and tons of other stuff. Somewhat lost in the shuffle was the announcement that the excellent Alien: Isolation is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Watch the announce trailer below.
Alien: Isolation first released back in 2015 to favorable reviews. The game did an excellent job of setting a terrifying atmosphere and had a great visual style. Many also praised the A.I. of the titular Alien. Trying to move through the station was a harrowing experience that had you constantly on the edge of your seat.
This port is being handled by Feral Interactive who has already brought the game to both Linux and Mac. Alien: Isolation will only be their second game on Switch, but they have quite the pedigree in the Linux and Mac space. Plus, they have quite a bit of familiarity with the product. If anyone can make this work, it’s probably them.
That said, I’m very interested to see how this holds up on the Switch. We just learned that The Witcher 3 will only run at 720p when it releases on the console. And that’s when the Switch is docked. Handheld mode will only look worse. I’m not saying Alien: Isolation is as graphically intensive as The Witcher 3; however, it does give me pause to see games that weren’t developed with the hardware in mind try to make the jump. Hopefully, the team at Feral Interactive proves me wrong, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this one looks rough at launch.
Alien: Isolation is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year. For more E3 news, keep your browser locked on DualShockers.
