Earlier today, FoxNext Games and D3 Go! officially unveiled Alien: Blackout, a game many have been anticipating the announcement of since that title was trademarked back in November. That being said, Alien: Blackout turned out to be a mobile game, so the response to the game’s first trailer and screenshots has been less than savory.
While the trailer is currently only at 5,407 views on YouTube at the time of this writing, nearly a fifth of those viewers disliked the video. Alien: Blackout’s reveal trailer has currently amassed around 1,200 dislikes; meanwhile, the likes count only resides at a measly 80. The top-voted comments on the trailer also reference November’s Diablo Immortal fiasco, calling the game Alien: Immortal and referencing the “Do you guys not have phones?” and “Is this an out of season April Fools joke?” memes that came from that ill-fated Blizzard announcement.
Like with Diablo Immortal, I think the backlash as what we’ve seen to the Rival Games and Theory Interactive developed Alien: Blackout so far has been due to the negative aspects hype culture. Many people (DualShockers included) theorized this would be Cold Iron Studios’ new game, which has led to massive disappointment now that we know that isn’t the case and that Alien: Blackout is just be a mobile game. So far, Alien: Blackout seems fairly interesting and ambitious for a mobile game to me when compared to something of a similar nature like Five Nights at Freddy’s.
The trailer and screenshots are fairly vague but do give us an idea of what we can expect from the game. Alien: Blackout will have players assume the role of Amanda Ripley and must try to lead their crew to survival while also managing the Wayland-Yutani Space Station’s emergency systems. This is apparently just the first of many upcoming Alien projects to star Amanda Ripley following her first appearance in Alien: Isolation.
According to the press release revealing Alien Blackout, “20th Century Fox will partner with a wide range of storytellers and innovators to bring this epic chapter in the Alien Universe to life, with even more entries in Amanda Ripley’s story soon to be announced.” If any of those unannounced projects are related to gaming, you can be sure that DualShockers will let you know about them.

Alien: Blackout will launch for iOS and Android on January 24. You can currently pre-register for it on the App Store and Google Play if you want to try the game out for yourself to form an opinion when it launches.
