Nihon Falcom revealed in this month’s issue of Dengeki PlayStation magazine the names, profiles, full artwork and more for some of the playable characters in Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, including the “red-haired man”.
The new information includes new screenshots and a detailed explanation for two of the playable characters, including comments from Falcom’s President Toshihiro Kondo.
One important element was also revealed, the fact that the five playable Monstrum characters don’t seem to have real names and are instead nicknamed after animals. The white-haired cat girl is named “White Cat”, while the dual-wielding blonde guy is called “Hawk”. Some of the game’s NPCs were introduced as well.
Besides Adol and the five Monstrum, a red-scarf wearing character is playable as well, for a total of 7 party members announced so far. For those still wondering, we also already confirmed before each party members has different attack attributes like in recent Ys games. Seeing Falcom’s communication and how they refrain from saying Adol is Adol, something about him is definitely going on in the game’s story as well.

Falcom also published on Twitter a silhouette of the character “which looks like Adol”, stating that the official site for Ys IX: Monstrum Nox will be updated in the next few days. It’ll probably be the same info found in Dengeki PlayStation. As we can see, the character has some sort of claw hand, which seems to indicate he was the character found in one of the previous key visuals.
Falcom’s president revealed the first gameplay footage and tons of details including Adol’s age in Ys IX during a stage event at Dengeki Game Festival 2019. He also yet again stated his wish to remake Ys V. We also learned more about the future of the Kiseki series and how the next main games might feature a female protagonist.
You can find low-res preview images of the magazine below. This article will be updated once Dengeki PlayStation 674 becomes available in a few hours, with all the new info and translated profiles for the characters.
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is scheduled to launch this fall in Japan on PS4.
