Developer New World Interactive and publisher Focus Home Interactive have unveiled for the first time, Insurgency Sandstorm, in a new “E3 2017” trailer.
In development for PS4, PC, Xbox One, Mac, and Linux, Insurgency Sandstorm is the sequel to the multi-million selling Insurgency, that is poised to release sometime later this year.
The multiplayer tactical first-person shooter will notably come with the addition of a host of news mode and content scheduled to be revealed at a later date, including a new Story Mode. The story is to be playable cooperatively as a squad for up to four players (with two-player split-screen) or alone. The actual story will apparently focus on a squad of characters as they face increasingly challenging chapters, from the invasion of Iraq in 2003 through the insurrection period and leading to the present day.
Meanwhile, new gameplay features will include drivable light vehicles, character customization, unlockable cosmetic items, fire support requests, ranked matchmaking, and more.
The game is being developed in Unreal Engine 4 and will supposedly be a major visual and technological upgrade compared to the previous game. Further, the developer notes that while the game is being developed for console, it will remain true to its PC roots, whatever that means.
As for the new trailer, it is narrated by one of the main characters in the game, a U.S. Army veteran turned volunteer solider, who finds himself on an unexpected journey alongside a female fighter who is a native to the region and a few other characters who have yet to be introduced.
