Independent developer Critical Games has put a lot of work into making 8-Bit Adventures 2 feel, look, and sound like a retro RPG, but with the developmental lessons that have been learned by the gaming industry since the style was last used. Curious about how well that technique translates to actual gameplay? Fortunately for you, the game now has a playable demo available for download on Steam.
The story of 8-Bit Adventures 2 is set inside of a video game, which gives it ample opportunity to take advantage of many tropes and inside jokes that regular gamers might be familiar with. In this world, glitches are common. However, as they are able to distort the world around them in strange and impossible ways, they are also not allowed to exist. When the Glitch learns it is soon to be erased, it threatens the people of the game world. With your party, you must undo everything that the Glitch has destroyed and defeat it yourself.
In 8-Bit Adventures 2, you control a party of 7 characters, of which three are returning from the original games. With that said, the game’s Lead Developer Joshua Hallaran believes that games like these have a way of connecting with new and old players.
“After more than two years of hard work, I am tremendously excited to bring 8-Bit Adventures 2 to both existing and new players alike. We still have a little way to go, but I sincerely hope that 8-Bit Adventures 2 connects with players the same way that games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IX have always connected with me.”
8-Bit Adventures 2 is currently expected to release for PC sometime in early 2018. For more information on the game or to download its demo, you can visit the official website or the Steam page.
