As many other game companies have done this past week, publisher Electronic Arts announced this afternoon that it would be delaying it’s upcoming EA Play showcase by one full week in an attempt to let the focus remain on other more important conversations.

The announcement was made on social media where EA revealed that the new date for EA Play will now be Thursday, June 18, rather than the originally-planned dated of June 11. The show will still kickoff at 4:00pm PST/7:00pm EST on this new date and EA didn’t give any hints of what it might be talking about during the stream.

“With the important conversations taking place and important voices being heard around the world right now, we’re moving out time to come together in play,” Electronic Arts said simply in its statement accompanying the delay. This comment is in reference to the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests that have broken out around the world in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. The protests are meant to spark a conversation and push to change related to longstanding issues in the United States such as systemic racism and police brutality.

You can’t really fault Electronic Arts for making this decision at this point. Essentially, every single event that was planned to occur either this week or next week has been bumped back by what seems to be one week each. If you already had in mind just how this wild Summer Game Fest thing was playing out, just shift each date back by one full week and you should have a good idea of when it will all transpire.

We still don’t know exactly what EA has planned for EA Play this year, so it should be an interesting show to tune into. And if you can’t watch for yourself, we’ll keep you updated here on DualShockers once it takes place.
