Atlus, Koei Tecmo, and Morgana held on December 17 the third Morgana stream for Persona 5 Scramble The Phantom Strikers. Morgana most notably explained how the Velvet Room works in Persona 5 Scramble.
Beware before reading any further that seeing the game is a sequel to the original Persona 5, we have some spoilers in the house.
Morgana started by introducing Sapporo and teasing some of the events we’ll witness there, like Joker, Ryuji, and Yusuke taking a bath together.
We were then introduced to a new Persona 5 Scramble character, a politician named Mariko Hyoudo, voiced by Kyoko Terase. She’s pretty popular in Sapporo. In fact, her supporters are so fervent it feels kind of strange… Mariko also used to be acquaintances with Haru’s father, and her goal is to turn Sapporo into an admirable, “snow city”. Morgana mentions there definitely are trustworthy politicians, but he has some bad memories about them too, referencing Shido.
Next, we were introduced to the Jail in Sapporo. In case you’ve forgotten, Jail is the name of the new otherworld in Persona 5 Scramble. The Sapporo Jail is all frozen over, and we’ll even be able to snowboard. It’s heavily implied the boss of the Sapporo Jail is Mariko, up to the way her family name is written with the kanji for “ice” in Japanese.
The Sapporo Jail has ice-themed personas including Atlus mascot Jack Frost. Certain areas will also initially be blocked by giant walls of ice.
After that, we got new details on how persona gathering and the Velvet Room works in the game. Joker can get new personas by defeating them in battle and strengthen them in the Velvet Room by spending Persona Points. You get Persona Points by defeating types of personas you already own.
The Velvet Room in Persona 5 Scramble is handled by Lavenza. It’ll be the first time we’ll spend a full game with her.
You can also fuse 2 or more personas together. And the more fusions you do, the more bonuses the resulting personas will get.
Skill Cards are also back, allowing you to teach personas skills they wouldn’t be able to learn naturally.
Atlus announced on the Persona Channel website the next Morgana stream will be in January. Morgana has yet to introduce Osaka and Okinawa, meaning one of these two locations will be the next video. The full Morgana stream is included below.
Each playable character in Persona 5 Scramble is being introduced via trailers. For now, we have trailers for Joker, Sophia/Sophie, Ryuji, Morgana, Anne, and Yusuke. You can read more story details here and check more Persona 5 Scramble gameplay here and here. We also covered an interview with the game’s staff from Famitsu.
Persona 5 Scramble The Phantom Strikers launches in Japan on February 20, on PS4 and Switch. The game wasn’t announced in the west yet but will definitely come over.
