Although we still have a little while to go before we get our hands on 343’s next entry in the Halo universe, Halo Infinite, the developers behind the game wanted to share a very important and special nugget of information with their fans on how they will be implementing all those scary and intimidating alien noises – simply put, it’s all down to a cute little pug named Gyoza. The snorts, grunting, and slobbering may sound extraterrestrial but in reality, they’re just the sounds of a very happy puppy.
Of course, it’s great to hear that Steve Downes is reprising his role as Master Chief for the upcoming sixth installment in the Halo series but let’s face it – the most important voice artist in this title is this little pug. Can Steve make gnarly alien sounds? No, I didn’t think so. Throughout the video – that you can view below – we get to witness how other sounds are made that include weapons and vehicles, and also getting a peek at some of the strange noises made with various torches, buckets, and baking pans which offer some fantastic insights on the complex lengths developers go to in making some sounds we take for granted.
The only question now is, what aliens will Gyoza lend his voice talents to? We’ve previously seen Brutes, Elites, Jackals, and Grunts in the Halo series but this time, if you close your eyes, you can picture Gyoza’s voice being put into something small and possibly deadly given the gusto of some of those gruff puppy burps. Either way, it will be interesting to see if we can pin-point them throughout the game when it releases sometime next year. I also hope to see Gyoza’s name up there with the other high profile voice characters when the credits roll – I mean, he’s the star of the show.
We still don’t know a great deal about Halo Infinite, but during E3 2019 it was announced that the game is hoping to release sometime during the holiday season of 2020.
