Sniper Elite V2 Remastered was officially announced by Rebellion today, though its existence has been leaked over the past few months. In December, the game appeared on the Australian Classification website; yesterday, the game was leaked early. Sniper Elite V2 Remastered will be releasing for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, though Rebellion has confirmed to DualShockers that the Switch version of the game will feature smaller multiplayer matches.
On PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Rebellion has stated that Sniper Elite V2 Remastered will be feature updated visuals that support 4K and HDR. Obviously, the Nintendo Switch and base PS4 and Xbox One are not capable of achieving either of those things, leading Rebellion to say that those visual features are only “available on supported platforms.” Sniper Elite V2 did make an appearance on the Wii U, so it will be interesting to see if the Nintendo Switch remaster is closer to that or the new version on other platforms.
Fortunately, features like photo mode, 7 new playable characters, and including all of the DLC ever released are ubiquitous across all platforms. Another feature touted alongside the announcement of this remaster is “expanded online multiplayer for up to 16 combatants.” That being said, DualShockers noticed that this mode had the same disclaimer as the 4K and HDR visuals, so we reached out and asked Rebellion what shape multiplayer would take with Sniper Elite V2 Remastered for Nintendo Switch.
A PR representative for Rebellion told DualShockers that in terms of multiplayer “Switch is 4 players local wireless and 8 players online.” That local wireless play is definitely a feature unique to Switch that will benefit from the system’s portability, though the significantly lowered player count is noticeable. While the Nintendo Switch version of Sniper Elite V2 Remastered will be the only portable version of the game, those interested will have to consider if they are okay with smaller multiplayer matches and less impressive graphical enhancements.
Sniper Elite V2 Remastered is set to release for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2019. You can check out the first screenshots of the remaster below and also read about Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition for Nintendo Switch and two new Sniper Elite games elsewhere on DualShockers.
