Collectible merchandise based on games coming out isn’t uncommon, especially when they are based on a licensed property; that being said, it is odd when you haven’t even seen much of the game. Today, Disney confirmed that toys based on EA and Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are coming on October 4, which is a somewhat surprising announcement as we haven’t even seen seen any cinematic or gameplay footage from it yet.
Disney and EA really seem to be channeling the Schwartz with this move:
Spaceballs jokes aside, this Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order upcoming merchandise will be part of an initiative coming from Disney on October 4 called Triple Force Friday. Apparently, merchandise based on Star Wars: Episode IX, the upcoming Disney+ live action series The Mandalorian, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will all be available in stores at midnight on October 4.
The press release announcing Triple Force Friday mentions that “toys…collectibles, housewares, books, apparel, and more” based on those three things are coming, though it didn’t go into specifics. This makes sense, as we’ve barely seen anything from all of them at the time of this writing. That being said, Disney promised to share more about what exactly will be available as we approach Triple Force Friday. Here’s hoping for a Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order themed flamethrower, I hear the kids love it.
Disney’s President of Consumer Products Commercialization thinks that Triple Force Friday will be “an epic moment for fans, families, and retailers,” which is quite a lofty promise considering we haven’t seen any of their products yet. “We’ll be working with our partners to create suitably spectacular celebrations for each, in line with the excitement and anticipation of the legions of Star Wars...fans around the globe.”
When EA and Disney do finally decide to show more of the game, whether it be through this merchandise or not, you can be sure that DualShockers will let you know. They recently promised that we would be hearing about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in the “next few months” so hopefully that time isn’t too far off. Respawn Entertainment’s Mackey McCandlish recently mentioned that the team working on Fallen Order is basically brand new so it will definitely be interesting to finally see what they have come up with.
This announcement confirms that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be releasing in “Holiday 2019” on unspecified platforms. May the Schwartz be with you.
