Nicalis’ Crystal Crisis was one of the more quirky and unique titles to be announced this year. During a time were Capcom’s Puzzle Fighter for mobile phones was being shut down, Nicalis unveiled one that crosses over several notable franchises including Cave Story and The Binding of Issac in addition to including some Tezuka Productions characters. The game was initially slated to launch this year but today it was announced that Crystal Crisis will now release on April 23, 2019.
This new date puts its release just before the recently delayed Days Gone but after a super crowed Q1 2018 window stuffed with titles like Kingdom Hearts III, Anthem, and Devil May Cry 5. Notably, Nicalis revealed for the first time that Crystal Crisis will be simultaneously launching not just for the previously confirmed Nintendo Switch but for PS4 as well. As a footnote to this announcement, 2019 PS4 ports of The End Is Nigh and Dungreed were also confirmed by Nicalis.
Circling back to the main game in question, Crystal Crisis is a puzzle fighting game that has players matching lines of similarly colored crystals in order to activate attacks and damage opponents. In order to stand out, the game pulls from several notable Nicalis IP as well as some characters from Tezuka Productions. Some new screenshots of Crystal Crisis and a new trailer highlighting the three PS4 ports were released in tandem with this announcement and can be seen below. Crystal Crisis is now poised to release simultaneously on Nintendo Switch and PS4 on April 23, 2019.
