RockStar Games is expected to pull back the curtain for the Red Dead Online beta any day now. While the mode’s existence has been known for some time , we have yet to see any actual substance of what will come when the beta launches. Earlier this month Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick assured share-holders during an earnings call that the mode is still on track for a late November delivery.
Reported first by the eagle-eyed team at Ultragamerz, Red Dead Redemption 2 Xbox achievement “Breakout”, an achievement related to its Red Dead Online mode, is now showing activity. After doing a deeper dive on the Xbox achievement comparison page myself, I noticed a handful of other Red Dead Online related Xbox achievements are showing similar activity. While it’s not a massive number, it’s nice to know that at least 0.01% of total Xbox One Red Dead Redemption 2 players are currently enjoying the game’s online mode.
In regards to what we will find in the Red Dead Online Beta when it does officially launch, it’s all very much still up in the air. The original Red Dead Redemption featured an online mode that took many of the game’s single player elements and expanded on them with an open-world multiplayer sandbox in mind. While it featured traditional online multiplayer modes like team death match, its free roam and PVE “Gang Hideouts” provided a unique spin to what was found within other online games at the time when it launched.
Red Dead Redemption 2‘s story campaign is much more layered this time around. The single player mode relies heavily on looting, hunting, and crafting mechanics. The inclusion of theses systems, compounded with a breathtaking open world and NPCs that help bring it all to life is a big reason why critics and fans see the game as a technological achievement. The question is: what does that all translate into when Red Dead Online beta opens up to everyone? And how will these new systems and mechanics influence game play in the new Red Dead Online?
The world is waiting to hear exactly that from Rockstar Games themselves. But considering there’s only 5 days left in November, and the mode’s achievements are showing activity, we’re certain to hear something very, very soon.
