It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard anything about Dead Island 2. As in, the last substantial piece of news on the survival zombie game was in 2015 when the troubled title picked up a new developer. However, both Sumo Digital and publisher Deep Silver seem determined to assuage fan fears that the game is in development hell.
After plugging the upcoming Dead Island mobile game (Dead Island: Survivors) some more-aggravated members of the community sounded off, asking on the status of Dead Island 2.
What’s going on is that it’s in development and we won’t be showing more until we’re ready. Appreciate the wait is painful, but Dead Island 2 is still coming.

The underscoring message of this tweet is obviously that they understand that the wait for more information is not pleasant, but the game is still in development.
With that said, there is no wonder that some fans have reasonable concerns over the game. The game was initially announced at E3 2014, with the Spec Ops: The Line developers Yager Development at the helm instead of the original Dead Island developers, Techland. Despite a Spring 2015 release date, the game was delayed into 2016 citing setbacks on development goals.
Delays are not nearly the sign of poor development health that they once were, so things didn’t strike fans as odd until publisher Deep Silver dropped Yager Development from the project altogether. While little was known about the specific issues, Yager later went on record citing creative differences with the publisher over Dead Island 2. Following the departure, Sumo Digital — the creators of LittleBigPlanet 3 and Crackdown 3 — were drafted to finish up the project. However, little news of the game has permeated since then.
Dead Island 2 will supposedly be coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One sometime in the future, however we will have to wait for more news to know when. If you want to support the development or liked the early trailers, feel free to put your money down on a pre-order via Amazon.
