Yesterday Nintendo announced that Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, the latest Wii U title to be ported to the Nintendo Switch, would be receiving a demo on the Japanese and European eShops. Today, as expected, Nintendo announced that the same demo is now available to download in North America.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was initially released on the Wii U back in 2014. Much more puzzle-oriented than other titles in the Mario universe, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker’s core gameplay loop consists of guiding Toad around a small level in search of a Power Star. Unlike Mario, Toad does is not well equipped to take on enemies, nor is he particularly agile. Rather than throwing your hat at enemies or stomping on them, Toad must find clever ways to maneuver around those who wish him harm.
As previously stated, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is the most recent Wii U game to be ported to the Nintendo Switch, following in the footsteps of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors. Additionally, in a somewhat surprising move, the game will simultaneously be ported to the 3DS. Regardless of which platform suits the title more, it’s nice to see Nintendo gives folks the option to choose.
If you’re itching to try your hand at treasure hunting, you can download the demo for Captain Toad: Treasure Hunter on the North American, European, and Japanese eShops right now. For those of you that don’t mind waiting, you can pick up the game for the Nintendo Switch and 3DS when it launches on July 13th.
