On May 1, Camouflaj and Darkwind finally released République VR on both Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR. Following the game’s launch, its developers took to YouTube and the Oculus developer blog to discuss the development of the VR version of this title originally released on PC, PS4, iOS, and Android.
In the new République VR trailer, one of the game’s developers explains how the developers worked hard to achieve high graphical fidelity while also adapting the original version of République and its unique mechanics in virtual reality. On both Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR, République VR includes all of the previously released République episodes and DLC, and supports a wide variety of different controllers.
On the Oculus Developer Blog, Designer Paul Alexander explains some of the challenges the developers faced during République VR’s development. In order to achieve favorable performance, many the game’s assets needed to be overhauled or re-created. Playing in VR also meant that players would be able to see much more of the environment, so they had to be touched up as well. While development went on much longer than expected, the developers are happy with what they’ve achieved in the final product.
République is currently available on Android, iOS, PC, and PS4, while République VR can be picked up on Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR.
