Today, Pixel Ripped, Inc. and ARVORE Immersive Experiences have announced new information regarding its upcoming project Pixel Ripped 1989.
According to the press release, after nearly four years of development, Pixel Ripped will officially launch on May 22 for HTC Vive, PlayStation VR, and Oculus Rift. In Pixel Ripped 1989, players venture into the screen of classic video games. Set in the era of portable 8-bit gaming systems, Pixel Ripped 1989 is a game-within-a-game and with the narrative focusing on Dot, an inhabitant of the 2D world who sees her world torn apart by the malicious Cyblin Lord, a villain with the ability to break through the video game screen and trespass the real world.
Interestingly enough, instead of playing as Dot, players control Nicola, a second-grade student who must assist Dot in saving both realities from this dastardly villain by tackling various challenges in the 2D world, while simultaneously distracting the cranky teacher and evading the infuriated headmaster in her world.
Initially, Pixel Ripped 1989‘s development began in 2014 as somewhat of a side project when the game’s creator, Ana Ribeiro, was still a student in London. Three years later, Ribeiro joined ARVORE as the game’s project director and game developer. Additionally, ARVORE also serves as the investor and publisher for the title.
To commemorate the newly-announced release date, the ARVORE has also released a brand-new trailer as well as some screenshots of the game in action, which you can check out below.
As stated earlier in the article, Pixel Ripped 1989 is set to be released on May 22.
